Then There Was One

It is the day before Christmas Eve. Although I went shopping for Christmas gifts, I have yet to complete buying everyone a gift.

As unmeaningful as buying a gift card may seem, it is difficult them. People say that gift cards are a thoughtless gift, but a lot of thought goes into determining where to buy them the gift card. The selected gift card speaks volumes of how you view the gift card receiver.

Then, you have to decided what is the correct amount to load on the gift card. You want the recipient to know how much they mean to you. But yet, you did not invest sufficient time to find them the perfect gift. If the amount is too low, they will be offended. It is a delicate balancing act.

I, on the other hand, would like to think that I am more grateful for a gift card because it gives me the autonomy to decide what to purchase. Yet, a majority of the gift cards I receive go unused. The problem with the freedom to decide is that too many choices leave you too fatigued to decide.

Decision fatigue will be the death of me.
